THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918

The First World War remains a foundational moment in the collective historical memory, from Aras, the Somme, Passchendaele, to Vimy Ridge. The great sacrifices and destabilising effects of the 1914-18 conflict can still be seen and felt today. Yet the conflict's place in the collective imagination can result in stereotyping or assumptions that are not wholly accurate. Our aim, as with all our work is to avoid these assumptions, and to be led by the primary evidence (including original uniforms and equipment), to put the life back into the past, to represent the British Tommy and his officers in a way that they would hopefully be familiar.
